The Top Professional

Premium editorial recognition for accomplished professionals. Every statement is recorded against a dated source, and on a wide screen the source is printed in the margin beside the sentence it supports.

Recognition

A record that does not only live on a screen.

A published profile is the whole of the editorial work. Alongside it, a recognised professional can be included in the printed edition, and can hold something that says the record exists.

A hardcover book in deep burgundy cloth, the title The Top Professional stamped on the cover above the words Official Print Edition.
The printed edition

The annual print edition.

Profiles selected for the printed edition appear as they do here: the same sentences, resting on the same recorded sources, set for the page.

A certificate of recognition from The Top Professional, with blank ruled lines where a name and a date would be written.
The certificate

A certificate of recognition.

It records that a profile was prepared to this publication’s standard and published. It is not a qualification, a licence or a ranking, and it does not say that anybody is the best at anything.

A faceted optical crystal award with a black tip and base, engraved with the words The Top Professional.
The award

An object for the desk.

An engraved optical crystal carrying the publication’s name. Like the certificate, it marks that the record was made: it confers nothing that the record does not already show.

The standard

Evidence before adjectives.

Four rules decide whether a sentence is allowed onto this site. They are enforced by the software, not by good intentions.

  • Source

Every published claim is tied to a source. A sentence that declares no source does not publish.

  • Date

Sources carry the date an editor read them. A claim you cannot go back and check is not evidence.

  • Review

Profiles are reviewed before publication by somebody who did not write them.

  • Corrections

A correction is checked against the underlying source, not against who is asking.

Recognition

Professional recognition, presented properly.

A profile prepared to the standard above and published under this masthead: sourced, dated, reviewed by a second editor, and correctable. It is not a prize and it is not a league table.

A profile that can be checked is worth more than one that cannot.
